COVID-19 is a threat to the Citizens and economy of the United States. It is not a threat to any single race, creed, color, or other manipulative subject of division. It is a threat to us all, and to our lives and fortunes.
For some, it is a threat to whatever sacred honor they may have. These creatures are so bereft of honor, decency, and basic humanity that they have gleefully tried to use it for political ends. They have used it to promote party, creeds, idiologies, or things other than the Republic and the Citizens of same.
For those who may still have some small spark of integrity, I beg you now, please stop. Pull back, reclaim some measure of manhood, and do what is right for all, not just yourself and your party.
For the others, I will steal a page from the far-left: How Dare You! How dare you put your venal interests ahead of my life, the lives of my family and friends, the lives of ALL Citizens and our economic well-being.
I would remind one and all that the Citizens are watching, and they will remember. They will remember who was willing to put their lives, and the lives of those they love, at risk for purely personal gain. When this is over, those who have lost those they love, and who have suffered adverse economic impact, will rightly look at you as being in part or in large measure responsible. And, they will be most right to do so.
Frankly, given the current climate, you will be lucky if they simply hold out for elections to hold you accountable. You may well be lucky if they only go so far as to try to recall you. You will be very lucky if they do not vent their rage in ways large and small at both you and whatever political party of which you are a part.
So, if honor and integrity are not enough, you have some strong motivation towards self-interest to stop this venal idiocy now. Show some maturity, some vestige of honor, some self-interest, and drop the politics.
If you don’t feel enough is being spent, propose more and put it towards really dealing with this and not underwater basketweaving/climate change. Don’t like a process or idea? Propose something else that is effective, efficient, and again FOCUSED ON THE DAMN PROBLEM AND NOT YOUR ELECTION/RE-ELECTION/PARTY!
This isn’t about you! It’s about all of us, and our lives and fortunes. Dig deep, dig hard, and find what it takes to do what is right for all, not just for you.

I did not get to watch the press conference last night, but hope to do so today. What I’ve been able to skim and from various reports I’ve read, it sounds like we have a good start. Putting Pence in charge makes sense, as a President has a wide range of responsibilities that require attention, and would detract from his ability to focus over a long period of time. Having the vice president take command ensures focus and oversight. Yes, there are political overtones to it, but that happens with anything delegated.
So that we can all hear what was said (versus what is reported to be said, which is — far too often — the case), here’s what should be a fairly full-length video.
Yes, we do have our first case on non-travel-related COVID-19. To be honest, I just lost a side bet I had with myself, as I figured it would pop up in a town with a university or large college. So far, it sounds like everyone is doing what they should. Maybe the lessons of Japan and elsewhere are having an impact at all levels here. We can but hope…

Want to avoid catching COVID19 here in the U.S.? Wash your flippin hands frequently, wash them thoroughly every time you use the bathroom, then follow with hand sanitizer after every washing, use hand sanitizer liberally when you can’t wash on a regular basis. Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze, and stay away from those who don’t. Also, keep your bugger hooks out of/away from your eyes, nose, and mouth. Do NOT shake hands with anyone, and avoid touching or being touched by strangers. Or your strange friends.
Avoid travel if at all possible. If you can telecommute, get that set up now. If you have to travel, use lots of hand sanitizer and go to full flu protocols. If you have to use a public restroom, take full precautions including using paper towels and such to handle faucets, doors,etc. Believe it or not, this was highly recommended before now, and major grocery chains have long told employees to use those practices to avoid getting or spreading colds, flu, etc. Not many actually do it, but…
If you own a business, make sure your employees know the above protocols. Have someone who refuses to wash their hands or otherwise follow the protocols? Talk to them, write them up, and if necessary fire them as they now pose a risk of infection to you and your customers. Extreme? Yes, but while the CDC and others are working to slow it down, odds are it is already here and could hit hard and fast. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
I want to reiterate that there is no need for panic, but there is a strong need to be alert, be informed, and be prepared.

The key to stopping an epidemic, or even a pandemic, is to break the various chains of infection. Break enough, and you stop it from spreading. First and best way to do so is quarantine.
Problem is, quarantines only work with known cases and known exposures. COVID-19 is transmitted through human waste (fecal matter) as one transmission vector.
Seems to me that if you want to break or at least weaken the chain of transmission in this manner that is going to happen with those who don’t know they are infected, there is an “easy” way to do it: clean and sterilize all public bathrooms.
Business, highway rest stop, doesn’t matter. Start cleaning and sterilizing them to the best of your ability every two hours. Not once a day, not twice a day, but every two hours. Is it an expense for businesses and agencies? Yes, but it is also far cheaper than having your business closed for weeks as a result of this spreading too far too fast.
Just a thought to share.

Following up on my post yesterday, the CDC is saying when, not if. One of the reasons I don’t think Europe will hold is that Merkel got her way and travel is not being effectively limited. Meantime, cases related to EU travel continue to climb. Bottom story of the morning is on the Tokyo Olympics. They should just scrap it now, but Abe is already facing calls for his government to step down over the Diamond Princess disaster so don’t expect an adult decision anytime soon.

The other day, I said I wanted to get back to Rod Dreher’s post on The China Apocalypse. That time is now, though I still can’t do it justice with the time I have this morning.
That said, in addition to locusts, a new biblical plague has hit China on top of COVID-19 and locusts: Frogs. Yes, tens of thousands of frogs have appeared on the roads of Wuhan and Nanjing. The locals fear earthquake, but most everyone else is going “wow” and “hmmmmm.” One has to wonder if given the swine flu, then the rest of this if Xi is hearing the music to Ben Hur when the appeals are made to Pharaoh, perhaps interspersed with “All You Zombies.”
Setting aside the prophecy, which I find more than a bit interesting, what has struck me most about this is that even a week ago I would have considered the response of this class of Chinese citizen to be impossible. The control of the upper elite is not just slipping, it’s taken one or more body blows.
For the elite, trained in the learning centers of and for the elite, to turn on the government like this is profound in a way that can’t be overstated. It is not a crack in the wall; rather, something on the order of a postern door or larger has been opened up and the troops are swarming through.
Is it the end of the current government and/or system? The ball says no answer at this time. Does it portend good things for that government? No, not in the least. What we can do is wait and see, and encourage and help those in Hong Kong and elsewhere to take what stands they can.
