Thank You!

There was no paperwork at all in the box, so I simply want to say Thank You!! to whoever sent this. It really did brighten my day (needed that) and I am looking forward to trying it out and playing with it here soon. As for those who don’t know what it is, you are in for a treat too soon I hope. Thank You!

  1. I’m leaning towards the change of runways as the proximate cause of the crash. The original course had the airliner headed for Runway 1, a straight up course in the center of the Potomac that would have avoided the two aircraft crossing paths as the helicopter was Southbound on the East bank or the river. When that course was changed to Runway 33, the airliner had to turn East over Maryland and then another turn to the West for approach to Runway 33. This meant crossing paths with the helo on final approach.

    Another possible problem was the traffic warnings. The initial advisory said the below traffic was crossing Wilson Bridge for landing at National, a pretty good advisory. But later advisory just asked if they had the airliner in sight, but didn’t provide distance and direction to the traffic.

    I believe they misidentified the outgoing jet as their traffic and never saw the CRJ. A good advisory would have sounded like “traffic is a regional jet, eleven o’clock at two miles.” This would have ruled out the departing jet which was westbound, around two o’clock and a half mile away.

    1. Tend to agree, and the ATC warnings were bad. Every time I had ATC contact me about a target, it was always “at your X o’clock, X altitude, x miles.” I fully agree with you that the chopper saw the outgoing jet and never saw the CRJ. In fact, with the course changes, it would have been in their blind spot prior to the crash.
